Blower Door Test

All our houses come with a ‘Blower door test’ completed at the final stage of construction.

What is a blower door test? Basically, it is a huge fan that depressurises your house and allows us to find all the small and tiny air gaps, and then eliminate them.

It is required by the National Construction Code that a new home be airtight to 10 AC (air changes, the lower the better) per m3/hr at 50 pascals. Although this is what you have paid for, there is no requirement to test this before your home is certified and handed over.

Because of this, the average Victorian new build is sitting at 18 AC per hour with some being around 30 AC.

This is therefore about the equivalent of leaving your front door or a large window open 24hrs a day. Normally we get much lower than the required 10 AC Pa. So, with the blower door test we prove that you are getting just what you paid for and saving you money down the track with better insulation and higher energy efficiency.

It is also a fun experience! We invite you to participate in this process as we stand inside the pressurised house walking around finding all those tiny air gaps.

On-site recycling

So, you have a keep-cup for your coffee, don’t use single use plastic bags, compost your fruit and vegies, and sort your recycling at home.

That’s a great start! But what about when it comes to the largest amount of landfill you will ever create in your life?

The construction of your home.

Research shows that approximately a whopping 40% of landfill comes from the construction industry.

Well, GWEH is here to lead the industry, with what we believe to be the best on-site recycling system in the construction industry. Our immediate aim is to eliminate or reduce our waste through clever planning in the drafting stage.

However, on-site waste is inevitable on a construction site, and there is almost zero on-site recycling done by builders. Why? It is just the way that’s it’s always been done, but GWEH is here to change that.

We up-cycle, reuse or recycle all the following items:

Steel, aluminium
